Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish is currently at the top of the leader board for season 19 of Dancing With the Stars. As the competition enters week nine, she is definitely starting to feel the heat, but she's taking a minute to enjoy her perfect score from last week. Plus, she explains why this week's performances are so overwhelming.
Tonight's performances for DWTS are even tougher than the previous weeks, with two full routines. Luckily, Janel and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy nailed their routine last week with 40 points (a perfect score), so they should have high enough scores to remain in the competition after tonight. For now, Janel is just happy with how amazing their Romeo and Juliet routine went last Monday.
"Last week's contemporary dance definitely was my favorite dance. I thought the choreography was the most beautiful we've done so far, and I love Romeo and Juliet," Janel wrote in her People blog. "I love the story behind it, and the song and just the message behind the song — that everybody's free to love who they want to love. It's an emotional song, and it allows you to express emotions through dance, so I loved every second of that."
Despite her love of the routine, the 26-year-old actress didn't expect perfect score from the judges, especially after the panel was being very critical last week. "Both of us did not expect to get 10s from the judges. I mean, we thought it was a beautiful dance, we loved dancing it, it felt great when we were doing it, but when we got 10s it was a huge shock, and it just made the whole night extremely special," she explained.
This week however, everything is about to change. Janel and Val will be performing two routines, a salsa and a quickstep. They will be adding a dancer, pro Keo Motsepe, for their salsa performance, which will add another level of difficulty.
"#mcm. My handsome partner. Let's do this! #showday #teamjanelskiy We can't wait to quickstep and salsa for you tonight!" Janel shared this morning on her Instagram account with a picture of her and Val.
For the America's Choice routine, they will be perfoming the quickstep to "Hey Boy, Hey Girl," Janel revealed. For the second routine, it will be a fun and spicy salsa. "The quickstep is going to be really cute and fun and playful, so I'm looking forward to that since we haven't had that in many dances, and the salsa's going to be raw and sexy and kind of animalistic, and I'm looking forward to that as well," the actress wrote.
Although the routines have been fun to work on, the pressure is definitely rising this week. "I think from here on out, it's going to be overwhelming each week because the workload is going to be heavier than it has been, and I think we're all just trying to figure out a way to cram in as much rehearsal time as we can with the limited days that we have left," Janel revealed.
