Boasting a bevy of star names - headlined by Jason Lee, Sam Trammell, Ridley Scott, Kris Kristofferson, Carlton Cuse, Shawn Ryan, Alex Gibney, Rachel Dratch and Kris Kristofferson - Amazon is set to make a huge splash in the on demand TV world in 2015, today announcing seven new pilots, including work from the directors of Acamdey Award Winners Bladerunner (Ridley Scott) and Braveheart (Randall Wallace).
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Amazon pilots are a mixture of four comedies (two are half-hour shows), two dramas and a half-hour docu-series produced with The New Yorker magazine.
As for the shows themselves, they sound promising in early going. Jason Lee (My Name is Earl) and Sam Trammell (True Blood) head up Cocked, an hourlong comedy about a liberal son returning home to his pro-gun family. "Hilarity, epic fights and emotional breakdowns ensue," says the Hollywood Reporter.
Nathan Parsons of True Blood will star in Point of Honor, a Civil War drama about a southern man fighting for the confederacy while also freeing his family's slaves, helmed by Lost's Carlton Cuse and directed by Randall Wallace.
Down Dog features Kris Kristofferson (Blade), Josh Casaubon (The Good Shepherd), Alysia Reiner (Orange is the New Black) and Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds, Community) and is about a charismatic yoga instructor in Southern California.
Revered filmmaker Ridley Scott is executive producing his latest project based on a Philip K Dick novel, The Man in the High Castle, which is based on the premise that the Axis powers won World War 2. According to Entertainment Weekly, it will star Alexa Davalos, Luke Kleintank, Rupert Evans, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Joel De La Fuente, Rufus Sewell, and DJ Qualls
Mad Dogs is a dark comedy based on a UK series about a group of 40-somethings in a Belize villa and stars Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Billy Zane (Twin Peaks), Romany Malco (Weeds), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Ben Chaplin (World Without End).
But no pilot season is complete without something a model, right? So Leslie Bibb and Rachel Dratch star in Salem Rogers, which details a supermodel re-entering the real world after a decade in rehab.
After delivering a hit with this year's Transparent, hopes are high for Amazon's next crop of shows.
