Two years after her departure, Molly Burnett (who plays Melanie Jonas) is headed back to Days of Our Lives. On Nov. 21 the actress will return to the hit soap and she is teasing her epic comeback and revealing why she left in 2012.
As one of the most hated characters on the series, Melanie will have to show that she is loveable when she returns to Salem. But why is she back in the first place? "She's homesick. You go back to what you know - her dad, Daniel, and Parker and Maggie and Brady, all the people she loves. But, also, she may have impulsively made a little mistake. Okay, a big mistake. She needs to get out of Europe ASAP," Molly exclusively told TV Guide.
"She made a very typical Melanie mistake. I'm serious when I say she's grown and evolved but a person doesn't change too much. Maggie hasn't been there to smack her around."
As for her romance with Chad, the actress revealed that she doesn't think there will be a new spark between the two characters. "I think she's pretty much let him go. This is very different kind of Chad we have now – literally!" the 26-year-old star explained to the publication.
"Billy Flynn is fantastic and super talented and really cool to watch. He brings an interesting evil to the character that is really rich, and Melanie picks up on that right away. It's not that she doesn't give a hoot about him but, after everything that happened with her and Chad and Abby, she's just tapped out. [Laughs] Besides, her life is in danger and that takes priority."
Molly also added that when she left the series, her character was finally starting to get a positive reaction, which she hopes will be true when she returns. "Hopefully, I was able to show that Melanie is a real person – someone who started out bad but grew and was positively influenced by the people in her life," the Addicts Anonymous actress told TV Guide.
"She's still impulsive and makes crazy decisions without thinking them through, but she did evolve a bit. When I left the show, Melanie went off to Europe to be with her mom after all the fallout with Chad and Abby. She really needed some alone time to clear her head and reboot."
Tune in on Nov. 21 on NBC to see what happens when Melanie comes back to Salem on Days of Our Lives.
