Watch Jimmy Fallon out 'Bono' Bono as The Tonight Show host pulls on the magical glasses and fills in for his missing musical guest after U2's Bono was injured in a New York City Central Park bike crash, prompting the Irish band to pull out of their weeklong residency on the show.
To be honest, isn't it kind of refreshing to see U2 without being subjected to the same old U2 mannerisms that we've had rammed down our throat for the past 30 years? And really, just like Fallon's Neil Young bits, it's hard to argue that Fallon isn't doing a better Young Bono than Old Bono can. If nothing else, he's certainly a lot less uptight and self-aware..
Add to the fact that The Roots add a certain un-Dad band swagger to "Desire", and you've got a winning recipe.
The Irish band and Fallon are close buddies, with U2 being Fallon's first ever musical guests after taking over the reins for the Tonight Show back in February.
Bono's bike crash is just the latest incident to befall the singer after a door jettisoned itself off his private jet last week on a flight between Dublin and Berlin, with Gawker quite rightly asking Is Someone Trying To Kill Bono?
The rest of the band took to their website to announce the crash, and say that they regretted having to postpone their Tonight Show appearance.
In the statement on the band's site, Edge, Larry Mullen Jr and Adam Clayton said: "It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."
Bono - who is also involved in the brand new Ebola-aid single from Band Aid 30 - is yet to make a statement, but here's to a speedy recovery for the singer.
