Tonight's episode of Nashville is all about the awards and there are some very unhappy musicians. "You're Lookin' at Country" focuses on Rayna's triumphs and Juliette finally learns the sex of her baby.
The episode begins with Luke and Rayna getting ready for the CMA Awards and Rayna looks flawless. As she helps Luke look for his acceptances speeches (yes, he is that cocky) she discovers a prenuptial agreement and she is not happy about it.
As Juliette is getting ready for the award show, she reveals she is nervous because she is going to be meeting Avery's parents that night. Plus, it is the one-year anniversary of her mother's suicide, so she is having horrible flashbacks of her mother and her scary childhood.
When Juliette arrives on the red carpet she is asked to wait in her car and it triggers another flashback of her mother locking her in her room as a child. Avery then shows up and whisks her away into the event and she meets his parents, which is interesting. While Avery's mom clearly likes her, his dad doesn't feel the same way.
Layla is dragging her feet when it comes to going to the show. She is still mortified by the way the reality series is portraying her to the public. Will talks her into getting excited about the night because they will be performing, which is a big deal. When they arrive on the carpet Layla tries to use big words to make herself look smarter, but it has the reverse affect.
Meanwhile Zoey is trying to keep calm while helping Gunnar take care of Micah. The three of them all get dressed up for the CMAs and they look fabulous. While they are sitting in the audience you can tell that Zoey is reaching her parental limits. She is terrified that Kiley isn't going to return.
While Rayna and Luke are arguing about the prenup in the limo, Scarlett is trying to talk Deacon into watching the show with her on their couch... he is up for an award after all. Back to Rayna and Luke, the power couple talks to reporters and it is clear that Luke thinks he is going to win more than Rayna that night.
One of the last singers to arrive is Sadie, who looks awesome. While she is talking to a reporter, she gets a text message from an unknown number and she freaks out. It is her ex boyfriend and he wants to know where his cut is from her hit song, which was written about him, is... yikes.
As the music award show begins Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley kick things off. The first award is for Single of the Year and Rayna wins! It is for the song she wrote with Deacon so he obviously thanks the great Deacon Clayborne and that pisses Luke off. Deacon however, has started to watch the show with Scarlett and he is very happy.
When Rayna wins her second award (she is nominated for six total) she thanks another musician and Luke's patience is wearing thin. Rayna then wins another award bring her total to three so far for the night. Luke then disappears to the bar and starts to drink his pain away (he has yet to win one of the five awards he is up for).
The only good thing Luke does all episode is tell Sadie that she cannot let her ex boyfriend get to her. She deserves to be there and she needs to own it. Both Will and Layla and Sadie's musical performances that night are awesome and very entertaining. As Scarlett and Deacon continue to watch together they talk about Scarlett's career and she admits that although she loved parts of performing, she felt lonely on stage.
In an interesting twist, Teddy is at the awards show and he spots the escort that he slept with a couple of week's ago and he wants to talk to her. He eventually goes and talks to her at the buffet and she covers for him so no one knows that they have ever met. Later that evening Teddy tells her he is jealous of her date and the hook up in a closet area. Seriously, Teddy?
During the show Gunnar leaves for a minute to talk to Kiley's parents and try to figure out where she is. Micah is left alone with Zoey, which is usually fine, however when Jeff comes to talk to her about her career (which is annoying in itself) Micah wanders off and Gunnar goes crazy trying to find him.
Back to Avery, he is talking to his father who doesn't approve of his situation with Juliette and she overhears him tell Avery that a good mother didn't raise her so why should he trust her with his grandchild? It is really sad and Juliette quickly leaves. After Juliette stops to talk to Rayna, which is really sweet, Avery tracks her down.
When Avery and Juliette talk she reveals that maybe she will be a terrible mother since her only mother figure was a terrible parent. Avery then realizes that he is just like his dad, judgmental and unforgiving and he starts to panic.
Juliette then takes the stage to present the award for New Artist of the Year and Sadie ends up winning over Will. Another Highway 65 win, yay! After she thanks Rayna and talks about her relationship with Luke, he quickly gets up and storms away. Rayna follows him and confronts him about his poor attitude.
Even though they won an award together (so Luke has one and Rayna now has five) Luke is furious that she thanked Deacon earlier. She tells him that she is there with him and to get over it. Luke then throws a serious dagger by saying the only reason that her record went gold was because proposed to her that day! Wow!
Rayna then takes the stage to announce Male Vocalist of the Year and Luke finally wins. He kisses her onstage and he makes a joke about Rayna not being able to beat him in this category. Luke is becoming a real jerk and Rayna is not happy about it.
When Rayna wins Entertainer of the Year (against Luke) she dedicates it to her girls. She then puts Luke in his place, after thanking him and tells everyone that men shouldn't feel threatened by the women in the industry because "There is plenty of sunshine for all of us!"
Back to Avery, he finally stands up for himself and Juliette when his father tells him that he doesn't know what he is doing. He then leans over to Juliette and tells her that they aren't their parents and that they can do this! Juliette is so proud of him and in return she reveals that they are having a baby girl! Aw, we can't wait to see what happens next with this pair.
At the end of the episode Gunnar finds Micah, but misses winning the award for the song he wrote with Scarlett. When he gets home Zoey tells him that she loves him, but she needs something else and she breaks up with him. As one couple is tearing apart, Juliette and Avery are getting closer. When Avery rides home with Juliette he ends up helping her unzip her dress and they share a moment. Fingers crossed they actually get back together.
As Scarlett and Deacon admit they had fun watching the awards that night Zoey knocks at the door and starts to cry to Scarlett. Meanwhile Deacon sends a congratulatory text to Rayna and she reads it after making up with Luke. Despite the fact that Luke and Rayna make up, the look on her face when she sees that Deacon texted her says it all.
In two weeks there will be an all-new episode of Nashville centered on Christmas and Deacon will share his feelings for Rayna once more. Hopefully, she will listen to him this time!
