Comedian Kathy Griffin has added to the speculation that she could be taking Joan Rivers' spot on E!'s flagship Fashion Police show, with the flame-haired comedian revealing last night the she and the dearly departed Rivers had spoken about it.
"She and I talked about it many times," Griffin explained in a chat with US Weekly at Goldie Hawn's Love In For Kids charity in Hollywood, where she was emcee. "She joked that no matter what, I should always get ten per cent less than she got."
She went on to say that it's a close thing, explaining that "I've been thinking about for a while and [the producers are] thinking about it too."
Also last night Griffin explained to People that she and her mentor Rivers chatted about the Fashion Police role, and Griffin explained that if it did occur after confirming a little while ago that she had been approached, it would be an emotional experience.
"Obviously," she said to People, "there is an emotional tie for me because Joan was such a good friend of mine, a close friend, truly a mentor - but also a legit friend. We talked about everything, and we joked about everything on the table, so it's something that I've been thinking about for a while and I think it's something they've been thinking about too."
Known for her dark sense of humor and take-no-prisoners approach to comedy, Griffin would be a similarly caustic Fashion Police host, and obviously, an ideal replacement for Rivers, who passed away in September at the age of 81.
The question, however, might be her fashion chops! Griffin laughed with People, saying that she's already been a fashion 'don't' for years!" She's also sanguine about her appearances in 'What Was She Thinking', saying that she's "laminated" all of them and that they have pride of place on her refrigerator, but, she explained, "they then covered the entire wall".
On the red carpet at the Love In For Kids, US weekly reports that Griffin joked that all of her fellow celebrities were "being nice", but laughing warned that could all soon change. "We're all kissing each other on the cheek," she added, "but they know that if I in fact become the sheriff of Fashion Police, none of them are safe and nor should they be."
What do you think? Would Griffin be a good replacement for Joan Rivers? Or should they not try to replace such a legend?
