When actor Mickey Rourke returned to boxing in spectacularly dubious circumstances last week, the 62 year old fought in a exhibition match in Russia, TKOing a former Golden Glove champion less than half his age in two rounds. The fighter -- the allegedly homeless and mentally unstable Eliot Seymour -- also refuted claims he took a dive, but is demanding to be paid the last $5k of his agreed upon fee. Is Mickey Rourke stiffing the fighter?
Today, Seymour told TMZ that that fight between he and Rourke was "absolutely not" staged, saying that the actor "knocked the wind out of me. it was a good shot to the body, that's it."
"If you've never been in a fight before in your life," said Seymour, "you've got no idea what it feels like to get hit." He also added that his humiliating loss was down to not "fighting that often, and I'm fighting at the highest weight of my career" adding that he'd "gained 20-some odd pounds for this fight".
The fighter, who The Daily Mail has claimed was potentially mentally unstable and who had been homeless and "on the streets for almost 18 months," also claimed that even though his flights and hotel were paid for, he still hasn't been paid his full fee for the fight. He told TMZ, "We signed for a certain amount of money, the event took place, I wasn't paid. All I'm saying is that I'm still owed five thousand dollars and I wanna get paid."
The Daily Mail quote another source close to the fight saying, "It was clearly a fixed fight." They added, "There are people at Wild Card gym who know that Elliot's in a really terrible situation and pretty much living on the streets, these are Mickey Rourke's people who Elliot's been around and known for some time."
As Mstars News reported, Rourke had an actual amateur boxing career before making it big in Hollywood and then turned pro for a short period in the '90s. He ended up with a pro record of six wins, two draws and no losses.
Rourke's boxing manager reportedly reached out to TMZ today, after the Seymour interview was posted, to tell them that the fighter only received 10k as that's the limit able to be taken through international customs, adding that he'll "get the other 5k next week." TMZ quoted the manager as saying, "I think the poor kid is just enjoying the attention a little too much and is beginning to talk to the press about anything just to get more attention."
What do you think? Was the match thrown or was Rourke just better than Seymour? You can watch the entire fight below and decide.
