Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is hurt, and the Cowboys don't want anyone to know. That's why the NFL is looking into a claim that the Cowboys purposefully tried to conceal Romo's rib injury before Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears, according to USA Today. Romo wasn't listed on the injury report but told NFL Network that he has been "with a rib injury that has required him to get medical treatment and wear extra padding in games," according to USA Today.
First we're hearing about it.
Romo has been listed on the injury report because of his back, which required surgery in the offseason and which he injured again in October. He routinely goes light in practice to avoid aggravating his injuries. But the team never disclosed his rib injury, possibly leading some to believe Romo is healthier than he really is.
Romo is no stranger to playing through injuries.
"We're looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote to USA Today Sports.
Romo was the 13th ranked fantasy quarterback in the NFL entering this season, according to ESPN.com rankings. He threw for 205 yards on 21 of 26 passing and three touchdowns and zero interceptions in Thursday's 41-28 win over the Bears.
The Cowboys improved to 9-4 and currently sit in second place in the NFC East, behind the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas has finished 8-8 each of the past three seasons.
"Other than the fact we still have all our goals in front of us," Romo told ESPN after the win. "I think that that's more for you guys to do your 8-8 stuff."
