The Big East New Year's Eve Marathon kicks off today on Fox Sports 1, featuring a huge five game, ten team slate featuring St John's at Seton Hall, Butler visiting Villanova, Marquette taking on DePaul, a Big East championship rematch of Creighton at Providence, and finally Georgetown at Xavier to close out the night. Read on below to find out where you can stream and listen to the Big East NYE marathon games. What better way to ring in 2015 than with college basketball.
Kicking off with St John's (11-1) at Seton Hall (10-2) at 12 noon, as BigEast.com's Sean Brennan explains we'll be treated to "D'Angelo Harrison, the conference's No. 2 scorer at 18.8 points a game, facing a fast-rising Seton Hall squad which is paced by Sterling Gibbs and his 15.6 points a game."
The second game of the marathon, Butler (9-3) at Villanova (12-0), tips at 2.30 p.m. and will, Brennan says, "pit two of the top defensive teams in the conference against each other with Butler first in the league allowing just 56.2 points a game while the Wildcats place third yielding only 59.2 points per outing."
Marquette (8-4) and DePaul (6-7) will face off in the day's third game at 5 p.m., marking, as Brennan points out, "the 115th all-time meeting between the two schools". The 6-7 DePaul (6-7) "will be looking to rebound back on the mainland behind a roster of promising youth (sophomores Billy Garrett Jr. and Tommy Hamilton IV) and an impressive transfer in Myke Henry," while Marquette "has won four straight and comes into the game toting an 8-4 record under first-year coach Steve Wojciechowski."
Creighton (9-4) and Providence (10-3) go head to head in the rematch from last year's Big East tournament final at 7.30 p.m. with Brennan saying "you might need a program to learn many of the new names at Creighton," and cincinnati.com's Shannon Russell saying that "life for Creighton after the Doug McDermott era has been filled with ups and downs."
Ringing in 2015 will be the final game of the marathon between 8-3 Georgetown and 9-3 Xavier at 10 p.m., with Brennan saying Xavier's "prized freshman forward, Trevon Bluiett" and "senior Matt Stainbrook, all 6-10 and 270 pounds of him, will give the X-men a legitimate big man to battle Georgetown's Josh Smith."
