Entertainment Weekly has released its annual list of the 40 most shocking moments on television from the year, 2014 in this case, and unsurprisingly, a scene from AMC's The Walking Dead topped the list.

The scene in question occurred in the Season 5 episode "Strangers," which ended with Gareth chewing on Bob's leg and announcing that he tasted better than he thought he would. Fans largely expected that the Terminus people would become the Hunters from the comics, the cannibals who roamed around and ate other survivors. And some fans might have even expected the scene to occur given what happened to Dale in the comics. But the actual reveal was still sickening and deserves its spot on the list.

Other notable entries include:

- No. 2: The Mountain gouges out Oberyn's eyes and explodes his head on Game of Thrones. This was another shocking and extremely violent moment that could easily have been No. 1. The Red Viper had the duel won, but he took his eye off the ball for just a moment, which allowed the Mountain to regain the upper hand and stick his thumbs through his opponent's eyes.

- No. 4: We learn the Mother is dead on How I Met Your Mother. This was an extremely divisive moment that some fans expected, but for which none were truly prepared.

- No. 7: Zoe's death by train on House of Cards. Season 2 started with a bang with the loss of Kate Mara's character.

- No. 11: Jake kills James on Scandal.

- No. 12: Ra's Al Ghul kills Oliver Queen on Arrow.

- No. 13: Dean becomes a demon on Supernatural.

- No. 19: Brody returns (sort of) on Homeland.

- No. 21: Daniel dies to save Emily on Revenge.

- No. 30: Skye transforms on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
