'Planetside 2' PS4 Beta Gameplay Goes Live January 2015 - Players Can Sign Up Now

The PlayStation 4 Beta gameplay for the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS) title Planetside 2 has been confirmed for January 2015. According to Sony Online Entertainment head John Smedley and a Twitter conversation he had this week, the PS4 version of the popular PC game has been approved for either the week of January 13 or January 20. This game is described as "the only MMOFPS where thousands of players align with one of three unique Empires and combat in an all-out, massive planetary war."

IGN reports that Smedley has told his followers to expect more news on the Beta on Jan. 5, but no other information regarding who will be allowed entry into the gameplay has been released yet.

"As much as it sounds like we're blowing smoke, we're working hard to release a game that feels like a full-on console experience and not just like a port," the game's creative director Matt Higby said in November, according to Gamespot. "So it's taken us quite a long time to re-jigger our user interface and our controls. There's a lot that needs to get done."

The PC version of this game launched about two years ago.

Polygon points out that Planetside 2 is a free-to-play game that Sony hopes to showcase on the PS4 in 2015, despite having earlier plans to release it in 2014. Earlier in 2014, Sony announced over 25 new titles, including Planetside 2, would be free-to-play on PS4. Another title is Kingdom Under Fire 2.
