According to the producer, Wilde's character dies. This isn't a spoiler, though, because this is really where the story starts. Wilde and Duplass portray med students, and when she dies in an accident, he uses a method they've both been working on to bring her back from the dead.
Blum served as producer on such films as The Purge, Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

"The reason I love to do low-budget movies is you can try different things... have creative freedom and experiment, like our characters," Blum told Entertainment Weekly about his new film. "The most important thing to make a movie scary is that the you forget you're watching actors, and you think you're watching real people. So I think if the audience sees someone they don't necessarily associate with that genre, it make it feel more real."
He added: "All of us really liked that movie. I feel like we're tipping our hat to Flatliners, for sure, in this movie."
Blum also praised the first-time narrative director Gelb, saying he offers "a really unique take on bringing someone back from the dead."
