While most of the world thought that Marvel's 2014 summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy was a tremendous hit, director James Gunn has a few regrets about the movie. According to the filmmaker, he had planned for a number of other characters from the comic book universe to appear in the film, but had to work without them or even write them out of the script due to ownership of these properties. So what characters didn't make it into Guardians of the Galaxy last year and what does Gunn think about these missed opportunities? Keep reading and find out below!

According to Gamma Squad, Gunn was speaking with Adam Green and Joe Lynch on their The Movie Crypt podcast this week when he revealed a bunch of character wanted to, but wasn't allowed to work with in his movie.
"There's characters that I've been interested in that I'm not allowed to use but I won't go so far as to say I definitely would have had them," the director said on the podcast (transcribed over at Comic Book). "There was a really good chance Bug was going to show up in the first movie but we do not own him... but, anyway, that was going to happen, perhaps. Listen, I really love Rom: Spaceknight, as everyone at Marvel knows because they've given me Rom stuff... but we don't own Rom. I would love for Rom: Spaceknight to show up because I love his story, I love the way he looks, I love everything about him."
The legal troubles didn't stop there, though. Gunn continued: "There are other characters, but basically, some characters we can work around and we can use. Listen, I wanted to use the Badoon, but the Badoon we don't own... they're really interesting. They would be like the cannon fodder guys who were like the Sakaaran in my movie... I wrote them as Badoon but I just did a search-replace-Sakaaran when I found out we didn't have Badoon. It was strangely late in the process when I found that out. They were designed as Badoon."
What do you think of the director's comments on these characters? Would you have liked to see them in the film? Do you want to see them in the sequel? Let us know in the comments section below!
