While fans might not have loved the fourth season of American Horror Story, titled Freak Show, it is being promised that Season 5 is going to really "reinvent" the series. The theme for the all-new installment has been buzzed about since Freak Show premiered, but little is known about the plot, characters or even the time period the new horror story will be set in. But on the heels of the Season 4 finale, a few details are being revealed about the new project.
According to NewNowNext, FX CEO John Landgraf opened up during the TCA winter press tour, where he explained that he knew a few things about the new season but has left it up for Ryan Murphy to divulge the information when he sees fit.
"I know what it is, but I can't say," Landgraf explained. "I have to let Ryan do his thing on that. But it's very different."
"One of the things I love so much about that is that it can be radically, radically reinvented in terms of tone, setting, period, characters [and] cast," John revealed. "I think there's going to be an unusually large reinvention in between Book 4 and Book 5 relative to, say, between Book 3 and 4."
While he doesn't let much slip regarding the new season, he does mention that it will be taking place in the present, as opposed to Freak Show, which is set in the 1950s.
But it seems that the biggest question on everyone's lips is will AHS staple Jessica Lange be returning for another go around? Well, according to TVLine, Landgraf might know the time period and some other details about the new season, but what he does not know is who will be reprising their roles.
"I know the setting, I know something about the characters and something about the tone and the time period, but I don't actually know the cast yet," the CEO revealed.
AHS: Freak Show finishes its season tonight at 10 p.m. on FX.
