Deadline broke the news on Pegg's new writing job, speculating that his hands-on script involvement could lead to more on-screen time for his character Scotty. Slash Film points out that this could just be supposition, though. His writing partner Jung created the TNT series Dark Blue.
While we mostly know Pegg for his time in front of the camera, he has also had his fair share of writing duties. He co-wrote Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End with creative partner Edgar Wright, and also penned Run Fatboy Run.
As far as the new Star Trek film goes, Pegg and Jung need to finish this script as soon as they can because the movie's July 2016 release date is fast approaching. Previous rumors of the film's plot included a trek into deep space, which would branch off from the previous two J.J. Abrams-directed films and relate more with the TV series that the movies are based on.
Whatever direction the new movie heads in, we're sure fans can appreciate Pegg guiding it with a new script.
