Tina is working hard on making Alex's dreams of becoming a leading man in the acting world come true. As the episode's title suggests, they attempt the "Insanity" workout, with hilarious results for the devastatingly out of shape Alex. As luck would have it, Brett gets invited to a premiere of one of the movies he worked on, which, in Tina's mind, would be a great event to showcase Alex's new drive to become a force in the industry.

Though he doesn't really want to go and they also only have two tickets, Brett agrees that the whole group shall attend the premiere together. Getting ready for the premiere, Michelle offers Alex Spanx, learns the babysitter can't come that night and decides to stay home. But after the others leave, the babysitter shows up!

At the premiere, Tina has the idea to sneak onto the red carpet with Alex so that he can make an impression. She succeeds, but it's a very awkward affair. After sneaking into some photos and being interviewed by a very old journalist, Brett informs Alex and Tina that the police are now looking for them.

Though it might have seemed like a waste of time, Alex is feeling pretty good after the red carpet ordeal. He decides to just do everything Tina says to do at the premiere. After revealing that he's dying to meet the film's producer, Larry, (played by Peter Gallagher), Tina hatched the idea to make it happen. After a bad attempt by Alex to start a conversation with the producer, Tina runs into him to get his attention. The seed is planted!

Meanwhile, Brett tries to smooth things over with the director of the film after last episode's events. It doesn't go too well because the director is out of his mind weird, so Brett is very embarrassed.

Back at home, Michelle decides to skip the premiere and heads to a bar instead. Brett reaches out to his wife via text message after the debacle with the director, but she lies, responding that she's going to bed. After bumming a cigarette off of a teenager, her night out alone leads her to a public forum about schools. Here she meets David, a divorced parent trying to open a charter school. A friendship starts, which seems a little too flirtatious for our liking!

Alex has another awkward encounter with meeting his favorite producer, this time talking too much about toilet paper in the bathroom. Eventually, Larry the producer comes over to Alex and Tina, breaking the "mission " to meet him wide open. Alex doesn't mess this part up, though; he drops titles of his projects and compliments the man, which he greatly appreciates. This leads to a great time hanging out with Larry, but we soon find out that he was just after Tina the whole time.

Though Brett clearly had a terrible night, walking out of the premiere he hears a bird. Isolating himself from everything else, he ends the night in a positive light. We also see Michelle looking up David online, Tina leaving with Larry, and Alex feeling a little defeated after maybe, sort of starting to fall for Tina.

It's not all bad, though. Tina does look like she has some remorse and is genuinely into helping out Alex - so we'll see. Plus, Brett cheers up Alex with some Rush music! That's cool, right?
