Sunday's NFL Super Bowl XLIX between Tom Brady's New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks of Russell Wilson drew a record 114.5 million viewers, becoming the most watched show in US television history. At halftime Katy Perry, her dancing sharks and a living scarf drew 118.5 million viewers before the broadcast hit 120.8 million people during the game's nail-biting conclusion, where Seattle coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Wilson combined to call a baffling passing play, which was intercepted by the Patriots. New England would win 28-24 and take hime their fourth Super Bowl and NFL Championship since 2001.

In addition to Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and Wilson pass intercepter/new truck owner Malcolm Butler, the James Spader-starring NBC drama The Blacklist which followed the Super Bowl was also a big winner. It became the network's biggest scripted ratings draw since ER cleaned up after the 2004 finale of Friends, snagging over 26 million viewers.
As deadline.com report, the Patriots-Seahawks game blew past the "112.2 million audience of last year's 43-8 blowout game on Fox [w]here the Seahawks smashed the Denver Broncos," to become "the most watched show in U.S. TV history."

The Hollywood Reporter quote NBC Sports Group chairman Mark Lazarus as saying "Last night's Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl ranks among the most exciting sporting events in U.S. history. Super Bowl XLIX delivered for all of our partners, proving once again that the Super Bowl is the most dominant and consistent property on television."
Deadline add that the ratings triumph is "Undoubtedly welcome news to all those advertisers paying $4.5 million for a 30-second spot."

As was the BMW 'Newfangled Idea' ad.
Katy Perry's halfitme show was up by "more than 3 million from last year's halftime featuring Bruno Mars (115.3 million)," reports Mashable. They add that "It is the most-watched halftime show since 1991, when the Super Bowl began featuring entertainment during halftime."
As NBC said in a statement "the game earned a 49.7 rating and a 72 share. That means that 49.2 percent of households with a television watched the Super Bowl, and 72 percent of televisions in use were tuned to the game."
