He has survived witches, vampires and werewolves and has even been brought back from the dead multiple times, but tonight on The Vampire Diaries fans will have to say farewell to one of their own. Jeremy Gilbert, played by Steven R. McQueen, will be leaving Mystic Falls for good. No, he won't be headed out in a body bag, but instead on a bus, as he makes his way to art school. Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley say goodbye to their co-star.
According to Just Jared JR., despite the episode title "Stay," Jeremy will definitely be headed out of town, as the news site even posted a picture of Alaric (Matt Davis) dropping Jeremy off at a bus terminal outside town.
The synopsis that the site posted for the episode reads, "It's Jeremy's last day in Mystic Falls and Elena puts on a brave face as they reminisce about their past."
Despite the emotional look back at their time together, McQueen told E! News that his last day on set was actually a fun experience.
"It was great having my last few scenes be fun," Steven explained to the news site. "I got to joke around with everybody rather than being sad about it. [My last day filming] we were just all sitting around cracking jokes. It was nice."
The site also reported that his cast members played a prank on him by jumping out and scaring him during his final scene.
While it might seem like Jeremy's exit on the series is permanent, showrunner Julie Plec does leave the door open for him, should McQueen want to come back for any milestone in the future.
"He's got a standing invite for weddings, funerals and whatever else comes around," the creator explained.
Jeremy's final episode will air tonight on The CW at 8 pm.
