The movie adaptation of the Ubisoft video game series Assassin's Creed has officially started production, with filming beginning sometime in the near future. This news comes from the gaming company's CEO Yves Guillemot who this week also confirmed the film's December 2016 release date. We don't know much about this film besides actor Michael Fassbender is set to star, but this production news is pretty great for those of us excited about the project. "We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started," Guillemot revealed this week during a company earnings call, according to Polygon (via IGN). "This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
As far as an actual filming date, we'll have to wait on that information in the coming weeks. Fassbender is currently filming a Steve Jobs biopic movie, starring as the Apple co-founder, directed by Danny Boyle from a script by Aaron Sorkin.

"We absolutely want to respect the game. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game," Fassbender said back in Aug. 2014 in an interview with IGN. "But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world. I don't really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory - you know, I think it's a very feasible scientific theory."
