It's a sad day in the world of the NFL as we learned that the 7-year-old son of former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson and Angela Bailey died Tuesday, Feb. 17, after battling brain cancer.
Peterson's son A.J. died at 7 after being diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a type of brain tumor, in summer 2014.
The former football star announced the sad news via Facebook, writing to his supporters: "#Ajsoars is in Heaven, where he belongs... #ajsoar #P3 #MyFirstSuperHero"
Peterson's wife Angela revealed that their son's homegoing celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21:
Homegoing Celebration for A.J.
Saturday at 3pm
Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church
1365 Kinlaw Rd
Kingsland, GA 31548
Flowers may be sent to there as well
Supporters from everywhere donated funds to the AJ Soars gofundme site. So far, as of this posting, the family has raised a little more than $41,000 for their son's medical expenses, and now A.J.'s funeral services.
After Peterson retired from football, he dedicated his life to helping out others in the community. His nonprofit the Adrian Peterson Foundation is set up to help kids in need.
A.J. Peterson fought a courageous battle. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adrian Peterson and his family. #AJSoars
