More casting news surrounding the 2016 comic book movie adaptation Deadpool has dropped this week, and this time we can share with you the main romantic interest of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson! According to new reports, seasoned actress Morena Baccarin has officially been cast as the romantic lead opposite the foulmouthed Marvel character. Baccarin joins the recently cast Gina Carano and T.J. Miller as supporting stars. Tim Miller is directing the film, which has a release date set for Feb. 12 of next year.

Baccarin currently stars on Fox's Batman prequel series Gotham, but previously starred in Firefly, V, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in Homeland.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baccarin's character is described as the main love interest of the main character that "grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face." If you're familiar with the Deadpool comics, you know that he wears that mask and that costume for a reason.
Speaking of his mask ...
Sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink. It's early. 365 sleeps early. #deadpool #prototypes pic.twitter.com/PekFa2KS7S

Slash Film reports that Baccarin was one of the actresses on the shortlist for the role, but beat out stars like Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf), and Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Red Band Society) for the job. Baccarin happens to be the actress out of these choices that is closest in age to Reynolds, so we see this as a refreshing casting job that focused more on the talent of the star.
