Anna Kendrick might be used to playing the heroine and the pretty ingénue in her flicks, but the star says that she can't wait to get to the point in her career where her talent is what gets her parts rather than her looks. The Last Five Years star has played attractive characters in the past, most recently her role as Cinderella in the musical Into the Woods, but we think that it was her amazing singing ability that landed her that role, not just her looks. Of course, we are sure that those definitely didn't hurt the casting choice.
The star spoke to The Edit magazine, where she said it is going to be an adjustment as she transitions into an older actress.
"I know that things will be more complicated as an older actress, in ways that I can't anticipate, but I would really enjoy getting to the point where the reason I'm getting roles or not isn't based on if something thinks I'm hot enough," the Pitch Perfect star told the magazine. "I feel like I've always been a character actress, and this is a blip in my career where I'm playing the ingénue."
According to E! News, the actress also explained that she thinks her acting abilities will improve when she isn't suppose to be portraying the "hot" girl.
"I'll be a lot more comfortable and get excited when I'm playing women who aren't suppose to be pretty," the Up in the Air actress stated.
As for what actresses she wants to emulate in her future, that 29-year-old says she really looks up to women who aren't afraid to be "ugly."
"Women who are willing to show themselves and be honest, and be a little ugly," the star told the magazine, mentioning Meryl Streep, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and even her friend Aubrey Plaza as her inspirations, as they are "honest" to who they are on an off camera.
Catch Anna next in the highly anticipated Pitch Perfect 2, which will hit theaters on May 15.
