We're introduced to a new character in one of the most peculiar ways imaginable: Linda (Mary Steenburgen) is lying on the ground, covered in branches and such, when Brett discovers her while on a walk, thinking that she's a dead body. Her interesting introduction was actually her "connecting with her death," as she puts it; for you see, Linda is a New-Age believer ... or hippie! Linda follows Brett, creeping him out a bit, but she just wants to help him in her strange way. She calls him a "Ghost in Chains." After trying to lie to get out of being around her, Brett has somewhat of a revelation when she asks is lying makes him happy.
Over at Larry's place, a topless Tina flirts with her boyfriend before getting a work call that messes up her day. She offers a client a free clown with a bounce castle, which of course leads to her asking Alex to play the clown. She asks him as he's working out at a park, which is cool. Anyway, he gets mad at her and hangs up, which leads to Tina asking Michelle why he's mad. Michelle puts her in her place a bit, but after receiving a text from David, Tina turns the tables a bit.
Michelle meets up with David to scout Charter school spots. This one in particular has a lot of work to be done, which to some physical activity and moments of closeness. In order to actually get the property, David plans a road trip to Sacramento so that he and Michelle can go to the auction for it.
Feeling bad for not being such a good friend to Alex, Tina convinces Larry to offer him an audition. She does say that the part is his, but the audition is a formality. He thanks Tina, but once he gets to the audition, Alex is a little less gracious. The part is for the funny, chubby friend of the main character, which is the opposite of the "leading man" goal that Tina said he should strive for. When his name is called for the audition, he goes in and reads for the villain role, which is a pretty brave move!
At work, Brett is having another tough day, this time with the director possibly not even coming in. After hours of pointless work and waiting, the director does show up, but Brett needs to eat something! He scavenges around the studio for some crumbs and then breaks down. After storming out of the studio, Brett goes back to where he met Linda. She's waiting for him and brings him to a hole that she wants him to get in. Brett lets loose again, this time opening up to Linda for a while before eventually letting her bury him in branches in the hole. He also gets a burrito if you were worried about him getting something to eat.
