Aheads of its official production date, FX has announced the cast from the new show from has Sons of Anarchy creator/showrunner Kurt Sutter. True Blood actor, Stephen Moyer, joins actress Katey Sagal, known to audiences as the infamous Gemma Teller, as they embark on new medieval/drama, The Bastard Executioner, in March.
As we previously mentioned, in the plot synopsis for Bastard Executioner, the medieval drama follows a warrior knight, Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) in King Edward III's court. The loyal knight has been broken by the ravages of war and vows to leave the way of the sword. When violence strikes again, the retired knight is forced to pick up his sword again.
Married with Children actress confirmed her casting announcement during an SOA conference call with reporters. According to Variety, Sagal plays Annora of the Alders, described as "prescient, mystical and beautiful." Annora offers predictions, cures and potions.
Working in front of the camera as well, Sutter himself will play the guardian of Annora, The Dark Mute Mate. Spencer-Longhurst will star as Baroness Lowry 'Love' Aberffraw Ventris. Moyer is Milus Corbett, one of Ventris' former marshals in the army. He now serves as his own serves as his chamberlain, chancellor and justiciar.
Matthew Rhys will recur as Gruffudd y Blaidd, a smart, fearless and of noble blood leader of the Welsh rebels. His guest-starring role will not interfere with The Americans.
Joining the period drama cast are Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney and Timothy V. Murphy.
