Before the newest episode of the Batman prequel, Gotham, airs, Fox teases the return of their newest super villain in the DC Comics Universe. Will Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) take "back control" from The Penguin/Oswald Copplepot (Robin Taylor) and gouge out his own eye?
In our previous recap, Fish was in exile from Gotham after her plans against Carmine Falcone backfired. After being taken hostage, Fish found herself taking charge at an underground prison. After discovering a woman with missing eyes, Fish planned a prison riot in order to meet the man in charge.
In our recent recap, Fish discovered he was being kept inside an abandoned hospital. Working for someone higher than him, the Office Manager (Jeffrey Combs) is harvesting body parts for the black market. Not wanting to be another of his victims, Fish stabs herself with a spoon, gouges out her eye, and steps on it before passing out.
In an interview with People, Smith reveals, "Fish really does a great job at making everyone believe that she has it all together even if she's terrified. Her motto is, "Never let 'em see you sweat. Never." I think what she's trying to do. I think she's figured out a way within the prison to have a certain amount of control, which is one of the reasons why she takes her eye out."

The Matrix Revolutions actress continues, "Fish is all about control, but at the end of the day, she's still very vulnerable and she's still trying to figure out how to have absolutely everything that she needs and wants, which is basically to get out of there and to get back to Gotham and get her club back - if that's even possible. She is desperately trying to gain control, and you see the desperation within that act of taking her eye out."
Gotham continues on Fox Mondays at 8pm.
