Once Upon a Time might have made its triumphant return last week, but despite being only its second week back viewers have been left with a multitude of questions. First of all, what did Snow and Charming do that was so terrible? And will Gold be able to resurrect Maleficent? And most importantly: Where did Cruella get her amazing wardrobe? Well, most of these burning questions were answered during last night's Match 8 episode.
This episode focused on the villain squad trying to put the plan together to bring their bestie Maleficent back from the dead. As viewers will remember, Emma slayed her a few seasond back while she was in dragon form. But knowing you can't have a storyline about villains while the greatest one of all is dead, the creators decided to dig her up and bring her back to life.
Fans get to see a lot of the backstory play out as their interaction with Ursula, Maleficent and Cruella plays out in the Enchanted Forest. The villainesses enlist the help of two of the noblest heroes -- Snow and Charming -- to go to the Tree of Knowledge to ask the for some advice.
In the world that was, Regina has just stolen the ultimate curse from Maleficent and they want to know how to stop her from enacting it. But the advice doesn't seem to come to them, since when they approach the tree, it sends them shooting backward because Snow doesn't appear to be the purest of heart.
Turns out that while she's a hero herself, the baby she's carrying inside her tummy (Emma) might turn out to be either the greatest hero of all or she could end up being the greatest darkness the world has ever seen.
While that explains what the Charmings are hiding from Emma, it doesn't explain what they did to Maleficent that was so evil.
Well, it turns out that Snow isn't the only one who's with child, but so's Maleficent, and the reason she wants to stop Regina from enacting the curse is so she can give her child a better life. But when Snow doesn't join the villainess in finding a way to stop the curse, it seems Maleficent ends up losing her baby.
In Storybrooke, knowing that Maleficent will tell this secret to everyone once she's brought back, Snow and Charming are in a race against time to find her ashes and dump them in the harbor so she can't be resurrected. But they end up being too late and come face to face with their foe, who vows to make them suffer as much pain as they have caused her.
In order to figure out what Maleficent, Ursula and Cruella are up to, Snow asks Regina to join forces with them as an undercover spy. Not sure if Regina will except, Snow then tells her the dark secret that she has been holding back from Emma: that her daughter was born with the power for great darkness.
Just like every episode, the writing this week was outstanding, giving us some truly memorable moments, so we decided to give you six of the top quotes from the episode:
1. "When I'm finished, you won't have a family left to hurt." -- Maleficent tells Snow while visiting her in a dream. Seems she was foreshadowing what's to come.
2. "These are blood diamonds, I'll have you know." -- Cruella says to Regina after the Evil Queen calls her accessories costume jewelry.
3. "It would be nice if one of the Charmings lived up to their name." -- Ursula says to Emma and Charming after they pull her and Cruella over to search their car.
4. "Your child might be just like us." -- Maleficent tells Snow and Charming in the Enchanted Forest.
5. "They are villains and we are heroes." -- Snow White tells Regina. But we wouldn't be so sure that the lines are that black and white, Snow.
6. "Because of us, Maleficent lost her child." -- Snow's shocking reveal to Regina about why Maleficent hates them so much.
