Robert Kirkman's graphic novel series, The Walking Dead has been adapted for numerous video game titles, including the widely popular episodic game from Telltale Games. Thanks to the record-breaking AMC series of the same name, there's plenty of demand for more video games, so we're pretty excited about the new title from Overkill Software. In a new SXSW interview, the creator of the popular comic book and TV series opened up about more details surrounding the upcoming video game and how it compares to Overkill's other popular series, PayDay.

According to Kirkman, this upcoming game is very much in the vein of Overkill's popular PayDay gameplay, but with a more unique style and a bigger, open world approach. Speaking with Polygon this week (via IGN), Kirkman is definitely selling this new title to fans of the series and comics.

"The key I think, which is very important, is that we're not doing, 'Hey, it's Daryl Dixon running around shooting zombies, because you like Daryl Dixon.' Or 'It's Rick Grimes doing this because you like Rick Grimes.' We're telling our own stories and doing our own things almost as if they are original games," he explained in this new SXSW interview.

Back when this game was first announced, Kirkman shared a teaser trailer as well. At the time, he stated: "I'm a huge fan of what Overkill and what Starbreeze have been able to do with PayDay 2. It's just an amazing co-operative game and I'm excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game. I'm happy to say that it's the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for."
