The "Biggest Party of the Summer" has returned to the Big Apple after a 16-year absence, but if you haven't gotten your ticket yet, then you're out of luck. Tickets for SummerSlam, WWE's second-biggest card of the year, sold out "immediately" after going on sale to the general public Saturday, March 14, according to SEScoops. The 2015 card will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, for the first time.
"Tickets to the public for this year's WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, which takes place on [Sunday,] August 23rd ... sold out immediately this morning," SEScoops reported, with the general sale beginning at 10 a.m. "Virtually all of the tickets had arleady been sold via pre-sale ..."
Talk about a hot ticket.
In fact, according to a March 12 report from Forbes, the average price for SummerSlam tickets on the secondary market, like TiqIQ, was $248.08, with $85 as a get-in price.
The card was originally going to be held at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but that venue has been closed due to age and loss of revenue, according to nj.com.
"Brooklyn is an international brand and is the perfect stage for a major global event like WWE SummerSlam," said Brett Yormark, the Barclays Center's chief executive, according to The Washington Post.
SummerSlam has been held every August since 1988 and is one of World Wrestling Entertainment's "Big Four" events, along with Royal Rumble in January, WrestleMania in late March/early April and Survivor Series in November. SummerSlam has been held at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan in 1988, '91 and '98 and at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale on Long Island in 2002.
According to wwe.com, the event has had a home at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the past six years.
"Welcome [Back] to New York," SummerSlam!
