It looks our alien invaders are making another attempt to call our planet home more than twenty years after nearly wiping us off the face of it. Independence Day 2 is set to hit the screen on June 24, 2016, and its hero won't be joining us to fight off the returning invaders. According to the film's director, Roland Emmerich, Will Smith's asking price is high. But don't worry; some familiar faces will be returning: Vivica A. Fox and Jeff Goldblum.
"Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," Emmerich told the New York Daily News back in 2013. "We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film and the other half people who are new."
While Smith won't be joining us, his wife Jasmine Dubrow, played by Vivica A. Fox, will. In the first Independence Day, Dubrow played a pivotal role in keeping her family together while also standing by the First Lady's side in her final moments.

Exciting news... just officially closed @MsVivicaFox for #IndependenceDay! Here's the pic! pic.twitter.com/hXVjnqOFaD — Roland Emmerich (@rolandemmerich) March 24, 2015
Joining Dubrow will be her son Dylan who is now grown up. Dylan, played by Jessie Usher, is set to be ID2's lead and he'll follow in his father's footsteps as Earth's planetary hero.
In case you haven't seen any of Usher's work you can check him out on the Lebron James-produced basketball show on Starz titled Survivor's Remorse. In it, Usher plays a young basketball star dealing with all the newfound distractions that come with sudden fame.
Therefore, aliens should be no problem for him.
In that same Daily News article Emmerich claimed the movie would be filmed in two parts and will be called ID Forever: Part 1 and 2. You have to think the film will be akin to the War of 1812 when the British returned one more time in hopes of claiming the young United States. Let's Hope Usher has the same success that President James Madison did.
Also cast in the film is Goldblum (Smith's sidekick in ID1), Liam Hemsworth, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Here's a quick clip of Margo Robbie begging Smith to come back.
