FX's 'The Americans' Season 3 Recap: 'Do Mail Robots Dream Of Electric Sheep?': Will Keri Russell Kill Betty?

Season 3 of The Americans continues with an all-new episode on FX. With the threat of their operation being blown by Martha Hanson (Alison Wright), will undercover spies Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings discover 'Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep?'

Elizabeth meets with her recruit, but he may have been spotted during their previous mission. She can't take the risk and he will serve in other ways. After Elizabeth leaves, Philip is back at his regular day job. He tells her the FBI found the bug in the pen but Gabriel doesn't know yet. They have no idea what to do with Martha.

As Clark, Philip visits Martha in the kitchen. She smiles at Clark as he enters the room. Martha answers the phone call from children's services, rejecting the option of adopting children. Philip isn't too happy with the decision but Martha is fine with it as they start eating dinner. Martha then reveals what's going on at the FBI office as if it were gossip.

Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) meets with Oleg and tells him he's right about his defector. Stan is willing to risk it all to for Nina. Elizabeth's recruit tries to kill Todd but his gun misfires. He strangles Todd to death as they wrestle to the floor. 

Gabriel wants to know if Martha will protect Philip under pressure. The handler wants them to put a bug into the mail robot. At night, Elizabeth is upset to hear Todd was murdered. Elizabeth's recruit will do do anything for the cause, for her. 

Stan meets with the defector while Elizabeth and Philip break into the storage room. They find the mail robot and start tinkering with it. Elizabeth knows Philip has feelings for Martha but their conversation is interrupted by an old woman, Betty Turner (Lois Smith). Elizabeth stops the employee from making a call and threatens her life. 

While Philip continues tinkering around, Betty starts showing Elizabeth her pictures and tells her life story. Betty hands over her keys to Elizabeth after she rips the phone line off. Stan stands guard outside his defector's room as Elizabeth talks about her sick mother. Betty wants to know if Elizabeth will let her leave; which is not possible.

Elizabeth starts making the pills for Betty to swallow. During the night, Oleg shows up, pointing gun at the defector. She has two weeks to follow his orders. Just as planned, Stan is beaten up  by Oleg. 

Paige (Holly Taylor) is babysitting her brother as Betty continues to overdoes on the pills. Betty thinks Elizabeth was sent on purpose, because she's afraid of pain. Elizabeth promises nothing will happen to her son. Will killing her make the world better? "That's what evil people say," are the last words from Betty before she dies.

After finishing up, the two leave the building. Stan is told to take some beer and spirit for her head injury. Because the defector didn't confess, Oleg and Stan need to plan better as they share a beer. 

While playing scrabble, Gabriel tells Philip that Elizabeth chose him to be her husband. Philip knows Gabriel is the problem; to look out for his family because no one else will.
