While the world was busy bashing Jon Stewart's soon-to-be Daily Show replacement Trevor Noah, the current host of the Comedy Central vehicle was busy trying to figure out the right words for viewers and non-viewers alike. And on last night's episode, he seemed to figure it out. Stewart kicked off the episode immediately detailing the "kerfuffle on Twitter" that Noah found himself in the middle of, largely due to some "offensive" and "sexist" tweets he dished out to the public in the past.
"They have hired a new Daily Show host. Mr. Trevor Noah," Stewart said before noting his excitement over the announcement. The comedian then acknowledged the backlash Noah received on Twitter and begged the world to give him a chance.
"But I can say this, I think, without hesitation. Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect... or not."
Stewart later joked that the South African comedian can do so in the same way that he himself has earned viewers trust. "Or not..."
To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.

The point of the host's message was that you can never make everyone happy, but he does hope that viewers give Noah the opportunity to earn that trust and respect.
"My experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual."
