Today's the big day. Daredevil debuts on Netflix and for comic book fans, it's sort of like Christmas if Christmas came once every 13 years and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner decided to take over as Mr. and Mrs. Claus one year. Coming into its first day on the net, Daredevil already has a special feel to it because rarely do Netflix originals get any hype unless it's to promote a second season. House of Cards is a huge show but nobody was excited for it weeks before its debut. The new super hero series starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy and Scott Glenn as Stick has gotten rave reviews and it's only been up a few hours.
Slate said Daredevil is dark, smart and unpretentious. They also made the claim that it's the best superhero TV series they've ever seen.
"It's odd that in our coinciding Golden Age of Television and Gold Rush of Superhero Entertainments, we've yet to see a truly great superhero television show," Slate writer Jack Hamilton wrote. "It's dark and gripping, smart and sure-footed, and takes itself and its audience seriously while avoiding either pretentious brooding or fanboy pandering."
The Daily Beast lauded Daredevil for its action:
"When Daredevil takes on his enemies, he does so using a variety of punches and flip-kicks that resound with a crunching force. Anything but polished, his skirmishes feel brutal."
Daredevil currently has 13 episodes and is must-see TV despite not being on television at all. It's on Netflix. The truly special thing about this series is that it has the potential to do for Matt Murdock what Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy did for Bruce Wayne and if there was ever a persona that needs more attention, it's the blind server of vigilante justice.
