It's a pretty well known speculation that NBC journalists Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams aren't too fond of each other – or so it seems from things other people have said – but now it looks like they've officially got a "tricky" relationship. Of course, that's what Brokaw seemed to infer when talking about his Nightly News successor... who was recently suspended after lying about some gunfire he underwent while on a helicopter in Iraq.
Guest what? It. Never Happened.
Now, however, Brokaw is solidifying his stance on Williams, noting that it was "tricky" when he left the Nightly News desk and gave it up to his successor.
"There's been way too much speculation about it," Brokaw said, according to CNNMoney. He then assured fans, viewers, the general public, etc. that he and Williams had a "cordial relationship."
"You know, it was tricky because he succeeded me, and I had my own strong feelings about how things should be done, but I never interfered with it. I would make suggestions from time to time."
And, well, maybe Williams wanted nothing to do with the suggestions? It seems so.
Vanity Fair presented a feature in which sources disclosed the fact that Williams was unhappy when Brokaw made no attempts to "save him" during the whole Nightly News Iraq helicopter debacle.
That debacle, of course, is when Williams admitted to having made a "mistake" in embellishing a story. He lied and claimed that his helicopter in Iraq was hit by enemy bullets back in 2003 when it actually was not.
Take a look at Brokaw's comments on Brian Williams below at the 55-minute mark below.
So, folks, how "tricky" is their relationship after all?
