Jill and Derick Dillard are settling into parenthood, as MStars News learns more details into why they gave birth to baby Israel David at a hospital instead of going along with their planned water birth. Because of birthing complications, she was inlabor for 70 hours and had a C-section.
According to People, Jill revealed that her son's birth didn't go quite the way they hoped for. She wanted an at-home birth in Rogers, Arkansas, but that didn't happen.
"His birth didn't go as expected," Jill said in an interview with People. "But having him here -- it's worth all of it. I wouldn't do anything differently."
Baby Israel was already two weeks overdue when he made his arrival into the world Monday, April 6, but his tardiness didn't discourage his parents as they awaited their son.
"I told myself first-time moms often go a week and a half over," the new mom said.
At 41 weeks and five days into her pregnancy, the 19 Kids & Counting star's water finally broke, but issues came while she was in labor.
Jill's troubles started when she tested positive for strep B, described as "a common bacteria that can be transferred from mom to baby during birth, and began taking antibiotics via an IV."
Jill's labor experience went into a scare when she was in labor for 20 hours "with contractions just one minute apart -- and little progression, Jill saw a faint stain of meconium (the earliest waste of an unborn infant, often a sign of fetal distress) and decided it was time to move to the hospital."
"I was praying to God to give me strength," Jill admitted. "I was really scared and nervous, but I was praying."
MStars News also learned that Jill didn't want Pitocin -- a hormone that greatly speeds up labor -- and pain medication, but things changed after Jill was in labor for 70 hours!
The birth of baby Israel was deeply concerning when he "flipped into a transverse breech position (sideways and upside down), was experiencing irregular heart rates and had not yet descended."
The couple revealed that they had to have a C-section, which delivered baby Israel David into the world safely at 11:49 p.m.
Wow, definitely not a typical Duggar birth, but with all the risk involved we're glad Jill was smart and decided to listen to her medical team.
"I love our birth story because it bonded us so well," Jill confessed. "I still haven't changed a single diaper. Derick has been changing them all."
Jill and Derick's journey to parenthood will air on TLC May 5, just in time for Mother's Day.
