If you're one of the many, many viewers of NBC's Today then you probably know exactly what Jon Stewart is talking about in the below video. The Daily Show host recently slammed the "news" program for kicking off an episode by showing viewers the horrific murder of South Carolina resident Walter Scott, who was gunned down by Officer Michael Slager in footage released last week by the New York Times, right as the show kicked off. Of course, the center of Stewart's slam was the fact that 24-hour news outlets are showing these murder videos on a non-stop loop, which takes away from the impact they actually make on society.

"Good morning ... Murder?" are the first words out of host Matt Lauer's mouth before viewers are introduced to the gunshot sounds and footage that would kill Mr. Scott.

And for the record, Today comes on at 7 a.m. Which Stewart couldn't help but joke about...

"Are you f*cking kidding me? It's 7 a.m.; I'm making oatmeal. You open the Today show with 'good morning' and then a video of an actual murder?"

Stewart noted that he understands television is a visual medium, but glamorizing the death of someone is just not acceptable.

Take a look at the political satirist's slam on Today and other news programs below:

"The 24-hour news networks shift these devastating videos into screensaver mode," Stewart claims, which are put on a loop for viewers to see all day long.

Readers, do you agree? Have we become comfortably numb due to 24-hour news outlets?
