This past Friday, Facebook exec Sheryl Sandberg was hit with some horribly sudden news. The businesswoman's husband, who happened to be the CEO of SurveyMonkey, Dave Goldberg, had died.
After word of his death spread, SurveyMonkey released a statement saying:
"Dave's genius, courage and leadership were overshadowed only by his compassion, friendship and heart. We are all heartbroken."
The 47-year-old joined the SurveyMonkey team back in 2009. Before coming aboard the group, Goldberg created Launch Media, which Yahoo! purchased back in 2001, according to reports from CNN Money.
Sandberg joined Facebook, also in 2009, as the Chief Operating Officer (COO). She's since authored the best-selling book Lean In and created the organization LeanIn.org.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to his own Facebook profile page after hearing about Goldberg's death to post a heartfelt message. His statement reads:
Zuckerberg also commented that Sandberg is a "very strong person" and is requesting privacy at this moment. She "will update us when she's ready."
In a recent piece from The New York Times on Goldberg's death, the publication notes how Goldberg would joke about being the "less famous half of one of the Silicon Valley's preeminent power couples." Speaking, of course, about his wife, Sheryl Sandberg.
So sad to hear about Dave Goldberg. One of the good guys. Thoughts and prayers to Sheryl + family + friends.
