RIP: R&B Legend Ben E. King & 'Stand By Me' Singer Dead at 76

MStars News has learned that R&B legend and singer, Ben E. King died Thursday, April 30, 2015. King was 76 years old. According to Entertainment Tonight, King's publicist confirmed his death via of natural causes to Telegraph. If you didn't know who King was, then you can probably remember a song that still makes wedding days a hit. King is best known for his 1961 song, "Stand By Me."

King's career began when he joined the band called The Drifters, known for their classic hits that include "There Goes My Baby," "Save the Last Dance for Me," and "That Magic Moment."

After going solo in 1960, King would also have hits including "Spanish Harlem." Our favorite song by the late singer, "Stand By Me" was included in the 1986 film also titled Stand By Me.

Fans and musician friend, Gary Bonds mourned King's death via social media.

"With an extremely heavy heart, I must say goodbye to one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years - Mr. Ben E. King," the singer wrote.  "Thank you Ben E. for your friendship and the wonderful legacy you leave behind."
