While the latest extended teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was pretty amazing to watch, director J.J. Abrams this week revealed that he had some "Easter Eggs" ideas that could've made plenty of fans very happy. According to the Episode VII filmmaker, he wanted to include a reference to the death of one of the least loved characters from the prequel trilogy: Jar Jar Binks! A huge fan himself, there were many struggles Abrams faced in holding back on references that he thinks would make others like him happy. Learn more on this news below.

Speaking with Vanity Fair for the magazine's cover story on the most anticipated movie of the decade, Abrams revealed that he almost regrets taking one Easter Egg out of the popular teaser trailers for The Force Awakens.

"I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks's bones in the desert there," the director said, according to Gamma Squad. "I'm serious! Only three people will notice, but they'll love it."

Though we didn't get to see it in the trailer, we want to remind you of one of the funniest viral videos from 2013 that featured the character's probable death in a Phantom Menace deleted scene! Check it out right here:

Jar Jar's bones weren't the only Easter Egg that Abrams had to take out of his film. According to the director, he had to focus more on the new story rather than reference the past.

"We used to have more references to things that we pulled out because they almost felt like they were trying too hard to allude to something. I think that the key is-and whether we've accomplished that or not is, of course, up to the audience-but the key is that references be essential so that you don't reference a lot of things that feel like, oh, we're laying pipe for, you know, an animated series or further movies. It should feel like things are being referenced for a reason," he explained, according to The Playlist. "That, to me, has been the constant struggle: to make sure that none of these things are treated like either they're a museum piece and we're trying to honor them or they're gratuitous and thrown in because, well, it's a Star Wars movie so you've got to put these things in. Everything has got to be essential to the characters in the film."
