With the new Star Wars movies on the way it's only natural that a new game will follow behind it too. Star Wars: Battlefront is the next game to represent the franchise and according to the game's producers, Dice, they're making some big changes to the series. The plan is to cater to both the gamers and fans of the new films by rebooting the series entirely. The new game won't be a sequel at all.
DICE made the announcement on their blog:
"Fun is the essence of Star Wars. We have chosen to reboot the Star Wars Battlefront franchise instead of making a sequel," Dice says. "We have created new game modes and made new maps to cater to their specific experience. You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic."
One of the game modes added to the series was the inception of all out firefight battles. Space Battles were left out for environmentally based infantry shootouts with a squadron of enemies. "It's about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry," executive producer Patrick Bach states.
Bach also says players will not be limited to the large-scale battles. There are more low key fire fights involving just you and a swarm of enemies. Bach says this is the best way to test their piloting skills.
"For those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills, he said. "All our Missions can be played either alone or cooperatively, making them perfect for some quick Star Wars action when you have a friend over."
