The description of Ninja Theory's upcoming video game, Hellblade might seem like a pretty straight-forward third-person combat fighter. We know that it follows a female Celtic Warrior that travels through Hell after suffering a devastating Viking attack, but we've learned so much more about this game thanks to its new 2015 E3 Conference gameplay trailer. According to this new video footage, this PC and PlayStation 4 title is based on mental illness and the struggles that come with it. Any underlying topic of any sort of entertainment outlet should be approached with precision and expertise. In order to truly create a sense of battling mental illness after such a harrowing life event, the developers of Hellblade called in Psychiatrist and Professor of Health Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, Paul Fletcher as a consultant on the game.

"True understanding of mental health is not simply about books, lectures or verbal descriptions but from deeper engagement on all levels," Fletcher explains in one of many development diaries. "Working with Ninja Theory has shown me the potential that gaming has for sharing in a character's experiences and engendering empathy in ways that go well beyond those offered by simple academic descriptions. Maybe this approach will contribute powerful new ways of challenging stigma."

PlayStation also covered the mental illness aspect of this video game in a new blog post accompanying the gameplay trailer reveal. Check out more information on this game right here!
