From the comedic mind of Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head), the Season 2 finale of Silicon Valley aired on HBO. In episodes1-10, this is the perfect opportunity to look at how Erlich Bachman (T.J. Miller), Richard Hendriks (Thomas Middleditch), and the rest of the tech gang struggled to build their startup business, Pied Piper.
As we previously mentioned, Richard (Middleditch) developed a revolutionary data compression algorithm. Unfortunately, competing business, Hooli, wanted that algorithm but Richard wouldn't sell it to them. It was a race to the finish line, as Richard and his friends tried to get their cloud storage platform working for the live TechCrunch event. During the funeral of the late Peter Gregory, Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) started a war against Pied Piper and filed a lawsuit against them.
Check out our 5 thoughts on the second season of Silicon Valley episodes 1-10:
5) The Live-Stream
The best moments in the show are when the tech gang face the obstacle together. The first season had Optimal Tip-To-Tip Efficiency, where Erlich and the others had to mathematically figure out how to jerk everyone off in a room. This time around, the guys had to keep their live-stream going to save a guy drinking his own urine. Even Erlich got into the action and started coding. In the perfect wide shot, the gang celebrated with a group hug, while the background was up in flames.
4) Carla Walton
Funny how actress Alice Wetterlund stole the show when she was introduced in The Lady. Alice Wetterlund just nailed her scenes as the only female coder in the room. Not only did she take on Jared (Zach Woods) with the company's sexual harassment rules, Carla messed with Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) by saying she makes more money than them. I hope we get to see her somehow in season three, because the guys need "a Yoko to their Beatles."
3) Big Head
As we previously mentioned, Wired did a piece on Big Head in the show and in real life, the official site published their own article too; which is a hilarious read by the way. My favorite moment was when Big Head took the stand in Binding Arbitration. Big Head won the judge over with his quirky humor and bumbling modesty, the judge states, "How refreshing it is to finally encounter someone in the tech community who is so free of pretension and ego."
2) Karma's Going To Get You
In Two Days of the Condor, the judge sides with Richard and not with the multi-millionaire. Because his employee records may be unlawful, Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) really screwed himself over. While Belson's suffering for his bad mistakes, his patsy, Big Head (Josh Brener), is getting praise for his charity works and three recommendations. Even Russ Hanneman (Chris Diamantopoulos) got his three commas back with his status secure as a billionaire.
1) The Saddest Ending For A Comedy
During the second season finale, Monica (Amanda Crew) has some bad news to tell Richard. Because Monica's boss has bought two board seats at Pied Piper, her votes outweigh Richards. Everything everything he sacrificed, Richard is fired from his own company. Thank goodness the show has a season 3 because imagine if this was the series finale....yeesh.
Silicon Valley returns for Season 3 on HBO.
