Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean has finally taken responsibility for the breakup of the popular hip hop group, the Fugees.

The Fugees group consisted of Lauryn Hill, Prakazrel "Pras" Michel and Jean and rose to fame in the mid 1990s until its breakup in 1997 and finally its disbandment in 2007. The group is still highly respected and is considered to be a legend, TheVersed reported.

Wyclef has admitted that it was his love for Hill and himself as the reason for the breakup of the successful group which included elements from hip hop, soul and reggae music.

The Haitian rapper explained to Power 106's Big Boy's Neighborhood about the Fugees' breakup. Pras had earlier blamed Jean for the breakup. "I'm sure he definitely blame me. And if you go back to the old articles one time, you know where Pras was like, ''Clef is the cancer of the Fugees.' You remember when he said that?" he said, HipHopDx reported. "At the time, you've gotta understand his frustration though. It was more like, I really wanted this thing to work and you shouldn't have messed with the girl. Matter of fact, didn't I warn you about messing with the girl?'"

He took full blame for the falling out of the group due to his relationship with Hill.

"Now, as a man and looking back, definitely take blame in the sense of having fell for Lauryn at the time," he said. "It was important that I explained it in the sense of vulnerability, meaning not as 'feel sorry for me' type of dude but as human beings. At times, we lust and for me, it was not even lust at that time because it was spending too much time anyway. In the book, I describe at that time, it was more of a muse type of relationship."

Jean has dealt about his relationship with Hill and Pras in his autobiography, "Purpose: An Immigrant's Story." The book also explains his relationship with his country Haiti where he was a candidate for the presidential election in 2010 and about his father, Digitaljournal reported.
