Former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill is a free woman. After serving almost three months in prison, Hill was released today (Oct. 4) from a facility in Danbury, Conn., according to TMZ. Hill had been serving time since July 8 in a minimum-security prison for tax evasion for money she earned between 2005 and 2007. Today, TMZ reported that R&B singer Lauryn Hill has checked in to a "minimum security type" federal corrections facility in Danbury, Connecticut. This is the first day of her 3-month sentence for tax evasion of around $1.8 million in earnings, which she initially said she did not pay due to situations involving danger to her family. Hill also singed a recording contract with Sony earlier this year to ease her financial troubles, but she has still been sent to jail. Lauryn Hill has been sentenced for tax evasion. While Sony swept in at the last minute to provide Hill with the money to pay her fines (and get some new music from Hill out of the deal), Hill will still serve three months for failing to pay taxes on $1.8M she received from 2005 to 2007. The lenient sentence is thanks, in part, to letters written to the judge. According to a note on Hill's Facebook, Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys wrote the judge in Hill's case, as well as 28 others.
