Joe Manganiello (as "Big Dick Rickie") returns to the screen in Magic Mike XXL with the support of his loving fiance Sofia Vergara, and his zeal for the already released sequel should get anyone excited to see both the sequel along with its predecessor. With an exclusive interview last week with PopSugar, Manganiello admitted that the film is a comedy and that this time around it is by far an ensemble piece where everyone is having fun and that the laughs are most certainly planned. There wasn't always a plan for an immediate sequel, but that everyone was on board with the idea and that the striping scenes aren't a chore, but a privilege and opportunity.
Matthew McConaughey isn't returning, but Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer are along with a new set of supporting cast members including Donald Glover, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard and Andy MacDowell, just to name a few.
Manganiello also briefly discussed his routine with PopSugar's Shannon Vestal and how it's not just him up there. "Donald Glover sings for me during my routine. Jada [Pinkett Smith] is part of my routine. We got Trent Reznor to give us Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer.' That's my routine." He explained not only the routine, but went into his process of first learning the choreography and then timing each item of clothing dropping at the right moment and on the correct beat. It was brought up that these scenes are a real performance in a way because the room is actually filled with a large group of woman extras pretending that they are at a strip club. Although there is pressure to "be packing" in the pants, Manganiello is light-hearted and obviously has fun with the role.
When asked how he feels about his fiancee, Sophia Vergara, visiting the set he exclaims how amazing it is and how she's has in fact seen his routine before. Manganiello comes across immediately as dedicated and fun and a well-rounded family man as well.
