The much-loved B-movie horror franchise, Evil Dead, returns as a horror/comedy Starz original series, entitled Ash vs. Evil Dead. During 2015 San Diego Comic Con, audiences got a first look at the first trailer of the series starring Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice) and Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess).
Not only is Campbell reprising his star-making role as Ash, Spiderman director Sam Raimi, who wrote and directed the sequels, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness, is also on board as executive producer, Raimi will also write and direct the highly anticipated first episode.
What a difference a year makes. During last years's Comic-Con, Raimi had made the announcement of the horror TV show, promising fans "It's going to be a great character journey, a great love story, and great horror fiction."
The Gift director had discussed about returning to the Book of the Dead, "I always loved working on that series with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert. My brother and I are writing the Evil Dead TV show."
We also mentioned, Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz, stated, "Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them. With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they've been craving."
And now according to TV Line, unveiled at this year's Comic-Con, Campbell returns for the continuation, alongside Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Ruby; Ray Santiago (Bad Judge) as Ash's unfortunate sidekick Pablo, Dana Delorenzo (Barely Famous) as Kelly, and Jill Marie Jones (Sleepy Hollow) as state trooper Amanda.
After hiding from what went down at the cabin, Ash, who has gotten old and fat by the way, is suddenly forced to go to war against the army of deadites once more.
Ash vs. Evil Dead will premiere on Starz Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31 at 9pm.
