Vacation is set in the world of National Lampoon's Vacation and focuses on Rusty Griswald and his family. Hangover actor Ed Helms stars in Vacation as Rusty Griswald who decides to take his wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) and children (Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebins) on a family vacation cross-country to Walley World. Things have gone amiss in the family and he believes that this will be a way to reconnect. Along the way, they come across other oddball characters including Rusty's own father, Clark Griswald (Chevy Chase). The film was written by Johnathan M. Goldstein and John Francis, who built the story based on the original characters created by John Hughes. It also stars Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Gillies, Charlie Day, Nick Kroll, Leslie Mann, Michael Pena and more.
A reporter from Collider was allowed on the set of the film and interviewed Helms about the filming of the movie, how he feels about playing Rusty as an adult and his character's relationship with his own family. Helms admits to being a bit hesitant at the thought of contributing to the latest chapter in the Vacation movie series, but that once he read the script he realized by page 5 that he was intrigued by the fact that it focused on Rusty's character. He goes on to say that, other than the general idea of Rusty taking his family on a vacation, the situations this Griswald family runs into are "fresh" and different from the original. Helms also thought that the scene involving Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will be particularly meaningful to fans of the entire series.
According to Collider, Helms really enjoyed collaborating with Applegate, how he was nervous to see how their personalities would "mesh" and that he has been a big fan of her talent and performance for a long time.
This fantastically fun comedy hits theaters July 28th! Check out the trailer below.
