Just a few months ago, we were saddened to report the news that writer and director Cary Fukunaga had decided to leave Stephen King's It movie remake project based on the novel about the scary clown named Pennywise. He had been working on the film for a number of years and even decided to cast actor Will Poulter in the iconic role of the killer clown, but disagreements with New Line Cinema studios forced the True Detective episodes director out. Fortunately for us, a new director has been hired and the film isn't going to be cancelled. Mama filmmaker Andy Muschietti is not taking on the highly anticipated project. Filming on the New Line project had been scheduled for late June of 2015, but clearly that couldn't happen. Armed with a new director, filming will likely come soon, but a new writer has to come on board to tailor the remake's script to Muschietti, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Muschiettie definitely has the pedigree to take on this project, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!

We're still hearing reports that this remake will be split into a two-part movie franchise, much like the original TV miniseries that depicted the childhood and adulthood of our main characters, tormented by the horror movie monster Pennywise (via IGN).

Speaking of Pennywise, we're not sure if Poulter is still signed on to star as the demonic clown, especially since Fukunaga was the one that cast him, but we hope that he stays.

"I've been in this project for about five years. I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two-hour movie. It didn't fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch," Fukunaga said earlier this year, before the news of Poulter's casting had been announced. "This will be my first movie in the US and I'm still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise."
