Dave Chappelle has always been one of the most groundbreaking comics of our time. His use of racial issues in his act and the famous television show, The Chappelle Show, is just one of many examples where the comic proved he is one of the best at addressing touchy subjects. It's because of this that Chappelle won an award at the Russell Simmons' Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. In front of a crowd in Bridgehampton, New York, the comedian spoke about comedy and art and went on to say that the enemy to all art is apathy.

"This is a very surprisingly emotionally charged time, so people like me, I think, are very relevant and necessary in sorting through all this information and emotional content," Chappelle said. "And when we are at our best, hopefully we are doing a great service to many people. The biggest enemy of an artist is apathy. A kid gets killed by the police and I buy a T-shirt, and before I can wear that one, there's another kid [killed] and I'm running out of closet space."

Chappelle then went on to say that he didn't return to comedy because the United States was in the midst of a tumultuous time, it just happened to work out that way. The comedian says he's happier to be away from Hollywood and the stress that comes from it. According to Chappelle, he's happy.

"I can say honestly that I'm happy, that I can sit at home on a Tuesday night and watch Key and Peele do my show and it doesn't hurt me."

Would you consider Dave Chappelle as one of the most iconic comics of our time?
