A year ago Cee-Lo Green plead no contest to one felony count of furnishing ecstasy to a woman during a dinner in 2012. It was after this hit mainstream media did Green take to Twitter to speak on rape. This was one of his tweets: "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent," he wrote. The Voice judge wrote a bevy of tweets similar to this and eventually deleted them because they were causing him "negative energy." It has been more than a year since the initial Tweets and now Green has apologized.
According to a recent interview, he realizes he was talking about a "highly sensitive" topic.
"I do realize in retrospect that it was highly sensitive, what I tweeted – highly irresponsible," he said. "It did stem from emotion causing some involuntary action, and I do believe that, maybe just possibly, we could all give each other a margin for human error," he says.
"And in those instances I do realize I'm an artist, that I'm flawed; and sometimes, you know, you don't think. I was most certainly not thinking, not considering whom I might offend. And to those many people, however many or however few, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize again."
Also in the interview Cee Lo admitted he was going to call his new album Girl Power. He wanted his music to be uplifting to women because, according to him, women are "our most miraculous muse – an enchantment that encourages all art."
Stick with love, hate is too great of a burden to bear
