If you're like the rest of the world, True Detective Season 2 was lacking in comparison to its former season. The Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch vehicle just didn't hit the same button as the Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson version. Maybe it was the lack-of-creepiness; maybe it was the cast; maybe it was the fact that people were finally seeing McConaughey act and realizing he's actually very good.
Regardless, whatever it was, something was missing from Season 2.
With that in mind, and the fact that the Season 2 finale aired on Sunday, MStars News has a few hopeful wishes for Season 3 of the famed HBO series. Of course, that's to say if there is a Season 3, but as Forbes put it, "True Detective Season 2 finale does not justify a Season 3, but HBO will Likely renew anyway."
Let's take a look at our list.
SOME CREEPY
What much of us loved about Season 1 was just how messed up and creepy the case was. Honestly, from the very opening scene we knew we were in for something weird. Season 2 was just "eh" in terms of storyline.
BETTER DIALOGUE
There were a couple of times in True Detective Season 2 where the dialogue was a bit cheesy. Actually, very cheese. Whether it be Colin Farrell saying an e-cigarette makes him feel as if he's "sucking a robot's d*ck" or Vince Vaughn so combatively asking if Farrell's character wants milk and sugar in his coffee, we're really hoping Season 3's dialogue is a tad sharper.
NO MAJOR CITIES, PLEASE
Season 1 was set in Louisiana. Which was perfect. Season 2 took place in Los Angeles and the extending California areas. You know, just like projects like Law & Order, CSI and L.A. Confidential did. So, perhaps it'd be best to keep the storylines somewhere more unknown.
And please, please, please ... do NOT bring True Detective to New York City. Please!
BETTER CHARACTER INTRODUCTIONS
To be brief, it was hard to figure out who Stan was after he had been killed because none of us remembered meeting him in the first place. The same might have gone for Dixon. Before he died, was his name mentioned? If so, was it firmly stated that HE was Dixon?
This is exactly why there were lists going around helping us figure out just what the heck happened on Season 2.
LESS CHARACTERS
The Wire was able to create an ensemble cast and additionally toss a bunch of characters at you – AND make you remember them – quite perfectly. It seemed as if there was some attempt on this in Season 2 of True Detective, but sadly, it was a miss. When asked to describe Season 1 of the HBO series, it was rather simple. When asked to tell someone the point of Season 2, well, that might take another few episode watches.
In the end, was it the story or was it the cast that didn't quite have our attention? Was it a mixture of both? Who knows...
Folks, what did you think about Season 2 of True Detective? Should there be a Season 3?
